The pupils took part in their third lesson of 2011 at Northgate Primary on the 31st of January. The third lesson was focusing on the learning the key skills and qualities needed to take part in the STANDING LONG JUMP. Below are the main Objectives of the lesson.
- To demonstrate a two-legged jump and landing.
- To be able to measure the two-legged jump.
- Explain the importance of jumping with two legs in sport and everyday tasks.
- To be able to work effectively alone and within a team.
The stretches performed were;
Quadricep
Hamstring
Gastrocnemius
Tricep (STRETCH OF THE WEEK)
Deltiod
The group then moved into their first task.The group were divided into 5 teams of 6, the set up can be seen below;
One pupil from each team would perform the task to the coloured cone and then return back to their team. The next person would then go after being tagged by their team mate. Each team would complete the task once and then they would be sat down in a straight line quietly (this would be the signal for me to know that they were finished).
Here are the activities that were completed;
- Jumping (They chose how to perform this e.g. 1 or 2 footed jumps)

QUESTIONS:
To perform a successful jump, what must the jump have?
Is it better to jump with 1 or 2 legs?
The groups then completed the following activities;
- Jumping with arms behind their backs.
- Ski Slalom Jumps
- Reach for the sky jumps
QUESTIONS:
Which actvitity was the hardest to perform? and why?
What parts of the body do we use to help us jump?
To progress the task a ball was introduced and to encourage two-legged jumps, here are the activities completed;
- Jumping with a netball between their legs.
- Jumping with a american football between their legs.
Two legged jumps but now focus on keeping the ball off the floor!
