The pupils took part in their fourth lesson of Term 4 at Northgate Primary on the 28th of March 2011. The fourth lesson was focusing on the learning the key skills and qualities needed to create a gymnastics routine including balances, flight and rolls to music but now with equipment.
The pupils took part in a warm-up activity to raise their HEART RATE and to PREPARE themselves for the activities ahead.
The stretches performed were;
Quadricep
Hamstring
Gastrocnemius
Tricep
Deltiod
We recapped last week’s lesson and in groups the pupils worked together adding in the 1 and 2 point balances to link, balance, a travel with smooth transition and control. After recapping the skills from last week the pupils were asked;
1. Does your routine have a start and a end position?
2. Do the performers have quality? control? body tension?
Here are a few snapshots;
The groups remained the same and the emphasis on the lesson was to reinforce the use of quality balances but now the groups had a piece of equipment. Each group were given a piece of equipment that was at a different level and the groups had to think about a new way to include a start and finish in their routine thinking of the levels.
The pupils recapped that the performances must be in time with the music and relate to the equipment they have been given whether it is fast or slow or a mixture. The pupils also recapped that the performances were using balances and rolls but remebering they must have;
- Control
- Body Tension
- Quality
The groups then moved back into their groups and the task was for them to adapt their routine to the instrumental of 'Rihanna - Only Girl in the World', which had a mixture of slow and fast beats.
Again the main emphasis was on the quality of balances, start and finishing position of their performances.
At the end of the lesson, two groups performed to the rest of the group and selected pupils were given a question to answer;
1. Did the balances have quality?
2. Did they have a start and finish position?
3. Was the performance in time with the music?
4. Did they have control? Body Tension? Quality?
5. Which performance did you like and why?
The pupils enjoyed learning and the activities that they took part in! Well done to everybody in the class for the effort and attitude towards the lesson!
Next week the groups will be performing their final routines in the final lesson!
Lesson 5:
Competition day for the group and all groups were allocated new apparatus from previous weeks. The groups then had to create a routine that would allow them to use all the moves that they had learnt over the 5 weeks of Gymnastics. Here are a few snapshots;
It was a excellent effort and achievement from all of the pupils throughout Gymnastics. Your grades have been completed and you will get to know them in your next PE lesson
Keep CHECKING the blog to see what we are going to be upto over the next couple of weeks!
Next term the group will be taking part in the 'Pentathlon Challenge' and then completing a unit of work on Athletics.
Looking forward to next term!
